In early 2010 I submitted a proposal for a textile garment piece to be exhibited as part of the '(un)veiled' exhibition in Poole. My application was successful and the piece was on show in Poole's Dolphin retail centre in April.

The exhibition was a great success and its organisers Daisy Carr and Morna Whilte have been invited to take thw show to Bristol as part of the Unchosen Film Festival in October 2010.

'Woman's Dress', 2010- needle felted and machine embroidered cloth.

"My work explores the concept of the 'empty dress', The idea that clothing appearing without a wearer in art is potentially more significant than if it appeared worn. Clothing is inexplicably linked with people, a dress hung in a gallery space provokes questions, “who's dress was it, why is it hung there, where is the person to whom it belonged” The viewer is then forced to ponder over the significance of their absence from it? What is the meaning of what is not there."

Salon Exhibition at Union 105, Chapeltown Road, Leeds

Thursday the 18th of March marks the official opening of East Street Arts latest venture 'Union 105' a new creative space in Chapeltown, Leeds. The first event being 'The Chapteltown Salon' an exhibtion taking inspiration from the traditional layout of a Salon gallery with work being displayed sll over every available wall.

All the pieces in the exhibition are produced by local artist and all the work available for purchase.

I have submitted two pieces for the show including some of my recent landscape work.

The exhibtion runs from Friday 19th March to Friday 16th April with the preview night on Thrusday 18th March.

Open houts: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12 – 5pm, Wednesdays, 2 – 8pm.

22.2 days is a small drawing project I’m currently working on that will culminate in an exhibition in Leeds.

The Story

I have estimated I have spent over 270 hours (22.2 days) sat on trains this last year travelling between Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and South Wales. 270 hours sat there thinking about all the time I was wasting. Nothing to do but sketch and take photographs of the scenery that rushed past and Think. Thinking about what I’d left behind and what I would find on arrival.

Rivers, canals, bridges, rows of white pebbledash terraces, the crooked spire, gateway to the national forest, the morning mist lying heavy on the fields, deer, disused tracks, unknown hills and Ponds, little houses along the Severn estuary, Gloucester cathedral peeping into view.

After a while the scenes all merge into one, each journey lost amongst a landscape of similar experiences.

This project uses those seemingly pointless, time killing sketches, notes and photographs turning them into finished pieces. Seeing the drawings framed and in the exhibition space will acknowledge this lost time and thought then maybe it won’t be lost after all.

Harrogate Knitting and Stitching show 2009

The Harrogate opens to the public on Thursday 19th November. I will once again be exhibiting with the Embroiderers Guild Graduate Showcase stand. Since the Alexandra Palace show I have been stitching my fingers down to the bone developing a new selection of brooches and smaller framed drawings that relat to the installation piece. This is a response to the feedback I received at Ally Pally where visitors expressed how much they loved my installation, if only there was a way they could take a piece of it home with them.

Knitting and Stitch Show- Alexandra Palace

October 8th-11th I will be in London exhibiting as part of the 'Graduate Showcase' at the Knitting and Stitch Show. The work on show is a developement of the Bronte Parsonage museum project I first exhibited at New Designers. Installing the piece is going to be a challenge as I only have one day and hundreds of tiny silk letters to indivudualy pin to the wall to spell out the Bronte Verses.

I was selected to take my Bronte project 'Beyond the Margins' to the New Designers Show in London. This was a really exciting experience for me as it was a change to show my work to a huge audience. I had amazing feedback about the work and some truely weird and wonderful suggestions of where I might take the project next. This is the statement that accompanied the work:

‘Beyond the Margins’

Textile installation piece

I spent some time researching at the Brontё Parsonage Museum in

Haworth, West Yorkshire. The museum is based in the actual house in

which the three sisters lived. The rooms in the museum are laid out like they were when the Brontё family lived there in the 19^thcentury.

The house witnessed intense creativity; I felt that traces of it lingered within its walls. My work is a response to my experience

of the museum; it explores the sense of presence felt within the seemingly undisturbed rooms.

Embroidered, silk screen printed and needle punched garments float in space over the simple white furniture, evoking a

metaphysical feel. Laser cut letters compose fragmented sentences from Brontё literature; the words cling to the furniture and

creep across the floor.
